The few brave (or foolish) souls who agree undergo a fiendishly complex surgery. Through the divine power of phlogiston their conscious mind is ablated layer by layer onto thin metal sheets. The techne of the City States Theurgists allows them to reconstitute the mind, or those parts that have survived transcription, by layering these sheets with incredibly complex clockwork and crystal arrays, creating a copy of the mind that came before.
