McLaren Honda, the most successful combination since the TAG team era, returned to F1 for the first time in 23 years! It's fair to say that it was the most talked-about topic prior to the opening race of the 2015 Grand Prix season, but McLaren Honda ended the championship in the bottom group, which was an unexpected result that fell below their initial expectations. However, McLaren Honda followed their concept of the previous year and revealed the greatly improved MP4-31 for the 2016 season. Although they were not able to challenge for the championship, the MP4-31 developed, improved and gained speed race by race, eventually finishing the 2016 Formula One World Championship Constructor standings in 6th place.
