Description

The Southern Ontario Masters weekend is a celebration of the great Marvel Crisis Protocol player community we’ve built here in Southern Ontario. It consists of three separate events held on the 22nd and 23rd of February 2025. The three events are:

Southern Ontario Masters; This format comes from a long time tradition in UK wargaming communities. A 16 person invitational tournament that takes place over both the 22nd and 23rd of February. 6 games total, 3 each day, with a top 8 Cut after the first day. Players who didn’t make the cut are then moved into Sunday’s “League of Extraordinary Henchman” 3 Round tournament.

Saturday Tournament; a 3 round Marvel Crisis Protocol tournament taking place on Saturday 22nd February. Players invited to the Masters can’t enter this tournament, so it’s an opportunity to play without the top 16 players in attendance. This tournament would serve as a great introduction to the Southern Ontario Marvel Crisis Protocol community. 32 Player Capacity.

Sunday Tournament; a 3 Round Marvel Crisis Protocol tournament taking place on Sunday 23rd February. The Bottom Cut 8 Players from Day 1 of Southern Ontario Masters will automatically be entered into this event. 32 Player Capacity.

Each of the three events are described in more detail below. If you have any questions, please come chat with us in our Discord Server.

Invitational Tournament - Southern Ontario Masters

How do I qualify?

The Southern Ontario Masters is a 16 person invitational tournament. To qualify for Masters a player must be one of the top 15 ranked players in Ontario as of December 16th 2024. The final spot is allocated to the winner of the Torchlight Grand Tournament. If the winner of the Torchlight GT is already ranked within the top 15 players at the selection date then the invite will pass to the 16th ranked player.

Players will have until 20th of January to confirm their attendance and pay for their ticket, after which their place will fall to the next lowest ranked player and so on until all 16 places have a confirmed attendee. Final selection will be confirmed by 31st January 2025.

While the invites for this year's event have gone to players that recently grinded their way the top of the local Longshanks Leaderboards... we do understand that this is only one narrow qualification metric by which to draw players from. Going forward, this qualification may change for future events. We know there are many great players in Southern Ontario who where not invited and we will look at ways to improve the selection methods in the future.

Event Formant

The players will be divided into four groups of four players each. The top four ranked players will be seeded into each group and the remaining 12 players distributed at random between the groups. During the first day of the event players will play against each other member of their group over three rounds. After the three rounds are complete the top two players within each group will qualify for day two. The 8 remaining players who don’t qualify for day two will automatically be entered into Saturday’s 3 round Swiss-Style Tournament - The League of Extraordinary Henchmen.

During Day 2 of the Masters the 8 players who qualified for Day 2 will be entered into a bracket such that the winner of Group 1 plays the runner up of Group 4, Winner of Group 2 plays the runner up of Group 3 etc. After each round the players that win their games will advance to the next stage until only one undefeated player remains. That player will be crowned Southern Ontario Master 2024.

Prizing for the Masters will consist of a Trophy for the overall winner - We are looking at options as to how to make this trophy standout. All other players will be given a participation item, we are working on the idea of tokens, but this may change.
